The Cat Who Opened Pyramids

Luna was reading in her backyard when a ginger cat with emerald eyes padded through the vegetables. The cat stopped beside her and spoke: 'You're reading about Egypt, but I can show you something better.'

Luna's brown hair flew as she jumped up. 'You can talk!'

'My name is Cleo,' said the cat. 'Take my paw.' Luna held out her palm, and when their skin touched, the garden shimmered like sunshine on water. Suddenly they stood before a golden pyramid as tall as a house, but small enough to fit in Luna's yard.

'This is the Pyramid of Growing,' Cleo explained. 'Inside lives the Gardener who makes the world green.'

They climbed winding steps covered in vines. At the top, an ancient door opened by itself. Inside sat a woman whose hair flowed like a waterfall of moonlight, stirring a cauldron that smelled like rain and fresh earth.

'You found us!' The Gardener smiled. 'I need help. My spinach seeds won't sprout. They need a child's laughter to wake them.'

Luna giggled as she planted tiny seeds. 'Will they really grow magic plants?'

'Not magic,' the Gardener said, 'but wonderful enough to seem like it.' She touched Luna's palm with a leaf. 'This spinach will make anyone who eats it strong enough to climb mountains and brave enough to face nightmares.'

Every day that summer, Luna visited the pyramid. She learned that true magic isn't about waving wands—it's about nurturing small things until they become magnificent. The spinach she planted grew taller than she was, with leaves purple as sunset clouds.

When school started, the pyramid faded like mist at dawn. But Luna noticed her garden had changed. The tomatoes were sweeter, the sunflowers brighter, and somewhere among the leaves, Cleo the cat purred with secret wisdom.

Luna planted spinach every spring after that. Each bite reminded her: magic exists wherever we plant hope with both hands open.
