The Cat Who Opened Pyramids
Lily was bored. It was raining outside, and her mom said no more screen time. She flopped onto her bed, watching her cat, Muffin, chase imaginary mice across the rainbow rug. Muffin was a fluffy orange tabby with the softest fur in the world and a very secret talent: she could open any door, drawer, or cabinet in the house.
Muffin suddenly stopped and pricked up her ears. She padded over to Lily's bookshelf and began batting at something behind a stack of old books. Curious, Lily climbed off the bed and discovered something she'd never seen before—a small golden pyramid, no bigger than her palm, with mysterious symbols etched into its sides.
"Where did this come from?" Lily whispered. As she touched the pyramid, it grew warm in her hand. The symbols began to glow, and suddenly, the most beautiful golden fish appeared, floating in the air right in front of her!
"Hello, Lily," the goldfish said in a bubbly voice. "I've been waiting for someone pure of heart to find the Pyramid of Wishes. I am Finnegan, and I grant three wishes to those who rescue me from the pyramid's eternal trap."
Lily's eyes widened. "You're magic!"
"Indeed," Finnegan bubbled. "But remember—wishes for others count double."
Muffin meowed importantly, as if she understood everything.
Lily thought hard. She looked at her iphone sitting on her desk, then remembered her grandmother, who couldn't visit because she lived far away and had trouble walking.
"My first wish," Lily said firmly, "is for my grandma to be able to dance again."
Finnegan's scales shimmered. "Done!"
"My second wish," Lily continued, "is for all the cats at the shelter to find loving homes before winter."
Muffin purred loudly in approval.
"And my third wish," Lily smiled, "is for you, Finnegan, to be free—not trapped in a pyramid anymore, but swimming in a beautiful pond where you can make friends and see the sky."
Finnegan's golden scales sparkled brighter than ever. Tears formed in his fishy eyes. "You've used all your wishes for others. That is the purest magic of all."
With a flash of golden light, the pyramid dissolved into sparkles. Finnegan promised to visit, and Muffin received a special gift: the ability to understand fish language!
That evening, Lily's phone rang. It was Grandma, calling to say she'd just danced for the first time in years. And as Lily looked out her window at the shelter down the street, she saw families adopting cats, carrying them home in the rain.
Muffin curled up beside Lily, and they both knew that the best magic doesn't come from pyramids or wishes—it comes from a kind heart.
