The Cat Who Opened Magic Papayas

Luna was a fluffy orange cat who loved papaya more than anything in the world. Every morning, she would meow at the kitchen counter until her friend Sophie gave her a piece of the sweet orange fruit.

One day, Sophie noticed something strange. When Luna ate her papaya under the rainbow Saturday morning sunshine, her paws began to glow purple!

"Luna! Your paws!" Sophie gasped.

Luna purred and trotted to the garden gate. When Sophie followed, she gasped again. Behind their ordinary wooden fence stood a magical padel court that had never been there before. The net was made of shimmering golden threads, and the balls bounced like they had minds of their own.

"Want to play?" a voice called.

Sophie turned to see a boy her age, but he looked funny. His skin was pale green, his clothes were covered in colorful patches, and he moved a little stiffly, like a rusty robot.

"I'm Zed," he said. "I'm a zombie, but not a scary one. I'm just... magical and different."

Sophie smiled. She knew you shouldn't judge someone by how they looked. "I'm Sophie, and this is Luna. Do you like padel?"

"It's my FAVORITE!" Zed's green face lit up. "But I haven't had anyone to play with in 99 years. The magical papaya brings visitors once every century!"

Luna trotted onto the court, her purple-glowing paws leaving sparkly paw prints. "The cat can be on your team," Zed said. "I've seen magical cats do amazing tricks on the padel court!"

They played the most wonderful game. Luna could jump incredibly high and hit balls with her tail! Zed moved gracefully when he played, his stiffness disappearing. Sophie laughed so hard her belly hurt.

When the sun began to set, Zed looked sad. "You have to go back now. But come back next Saturday? The magic papaya only works on rainbow sunshine days."

"EVERY Saturday!" Sophie promised. "And I'll bring extra papaya for Luna!"

Luna purred, her paws still glowing softly. She knew that friendship, like magic papayas, comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors—even if some friends happen to be magical zombies who love padel.
