The Cat Who Learned to Swim

Mittens was a small orange cat who had never touched water. She lived in a cozy house with big windows, watching birds play in the rain. She dreamed of adventure but stayed safe inside.

One day, she heard splashing near the old farm behind her house. Curious, Mittens crept through the tall grass and found something amazing. A massive brown bull was swimming in a crystal-clear pond! His huge body floated gently, and he looked happier than any animal she had ever seen.

"Hello, little friend," the bull said softly. "I'm Barnaby. Would you like to learn swimming?"

Mittens shook her head. "Cats don't swim! We hate water!"

Barnaby smiled. "I used to think bulls were too big for swimming too. But my friend Oliver — an orange fish who lives in this pond — taught me something important. Being brave means trying new things, even when they're scary."

Just then, an orange fish popped up from the water. "I'm Oliver! The water feels wonderful on a sunny day like today."

Mittens watched Barnaby glide gracefully through the water. He looked so peaceful, so free. Her heart wanted to try, but her paws stayed planted on the grass.

"You don't have to swim far," Barnaby said kindly. "Just one paw. That's how courage begins."

Mittens took a deep breath and slowly dipped one paw into the pond. The water wasn't scary at all — it felt like a cool, gentle hug. Then another paw. Soon, she was paddling beside Barnaby while Oliver swam circles around them.

She was doing it! Mittens the cat was swimming!

"You're braver than you know," Barnaby said. "Sometimes the best friends are the ones who help us discover our courage."

That afternoon, Mittens learned something magical: trying something new with a friend makes anything possible. Even a cat could love swimming, if she had a bull to show her the way.
