The Cat Who Learned to Fly
Mittens was a small orange cat with fluffy fur and big green eyes. She loved many things—chasing butterflies, napping in sunny spots, and eating tuna treats. But there was one thing Mittens did NOT like: water. Every time her human tried to give her a bath, Mittens would scramble up the curtains, hissing and spitting like a tiny, furry tornado.
One hot summer afternoon, Mittens was running through the garden when she spotted something sparkly near the old pond. It was a blue dragonfly, darting and dancing above the water's surface. Mittens crouched low, her tail twitching with excitement. She wanted to catch it!
She crept closer and closer to the edge of the pond. The dragonfly hovered just above the water, teasing her. Mittens wiggled her bottom, ready to pounce. But suddenly, she slipped! Splash! Into the water she fell.
Mittens panicked. She thrashed and splashed, expecting to sink like a stone. But then something magical happened. Instead of sinking, she began floating! Her paws moved instinctively, and soon she was swimming in graceful circles around the pond. The dragonfly zoomed above her, leading the way.
'Look at me!' Mittens wanted to meow. 'I'm a swimming cat!' She felt light as a feather, gliding through the cool blue water. Fish gathered around her, their scales shimmering like rainbow jewels. A friendly frog croaked a welcome. Even the dragonfly returned, landing gently on Mittens' wet head.
For the first time, Mittens understood what she'd been missing. Water wasn't scary—it was magical! It held secret worlds and new friends. Swimming made her feel brave and free.
When her human called her for dinner, Mittens reluctantly climbed out of the pond, dripping but delighted. That night, she dreamed of underwater kingdoms and flying fish. And from that day on, Mittens wasn't just an ordinary cat anymore. She was the cat who discovered that sometimes the scariest things lead to the most wonderful adventures.
