The Cat Who Learned to Fly
Lily's cat Mochi was not an ordinary cat. While other cats chased mice or napped in sunbeams, Mochi sat by the window watching the padel court across the street. His golden eyes widened every time players swung their racquets, hitting the ball back and forth with joyful shouts.
"Someday," Mochi purred softly, "I'll play too."
One afternoon, Lily's parents brought home a small glass bowl. Inside swam Bubbles, a tiny goldfish with shimmering orange scales. But Bubbles was no ordinary fish either. When Lily wasn't looking, Bubbles would swim to the surface and whisper secrets to Mochi through the glass.
"I can grant one wish," Bubbles bubbled. "But only for someone with a brave heart."
That night, under a sky full of twinkling stars, Mochi made his wish. "I want to fly up to the moon and touch it with my paw."
Bubbles swam in a perfect circle, and suddenly, Mochi began to float. His fur turned silver, and tiny wings appeared on his back. But something was wrong—Lily was still asleep on her bed.
"Wait!" Mochi cried. "I can't leave without my best friend!"
Bubbles smiled (which fish can do when they're magical). "Your wish has changed, brave cat. Now you and Lily will fly together."
Lily woke to find herself floating beside Mochi, above the padel court, above the trees, soaring past clouds that looked like cotton candy. The moon glowed ahead, welcoming them.
From that night on, they never needed magic wings again. Because they had discovered something even more wonderful: the best adventures are the ones you share with friends. And sometimes, the bravest wish is asking for someone to come along.
Mochi still watched padel from the window, and Bubbles still swam in his bowl. But now, Lily knew that magic wasn't about flying—it was about believing in each other's dreams.
