The Cat Who Knew the Way

Maya lived in a village where the sun always shone too bright. The wells had dried up, and her grandmother's garden was turning to dust. One evening, as Maya sat watching the sunset, a golden cat appeared beside her. Its eyes held ancient secrets.

"Follow me," the cat seemed to say, and Maya did.

They walked until stars filled the sky like spilled sugar. Ahead rose a pyramid small as a garden shed, glowing with soft blue light. The cat led Maya inside, where walls sparkled like night sky.

In the center sat a sphinx carved from lapis lazuli, her lion body curled around a pool of crystal-clear water.

"Few find this place," the sphinx spoke, her voice like river stones. "This water grants one wish. But choose wisely."

Maya thought of all she wanted—a new dress, toys, a castle. Then she remembered her grandmother's sad face when her roses withered.

"I wish for water for my village," Maya said. "So gardens can bloom and children can play."

The sphinx smiled. "You could have wished for anything. Why help others?"

"Because my cat friend showed me the way," Maya said, scratching the cat's golden ears. "And friends help each other."

The sphinx nodded, and the water began to flow. It poured from the pyramid like liquid silver, racing toward Maya's village.

"True wealth is not what you keep, but what you give," the sphinx said. "You have learned the oldest magic."

The cat purred, and Maya knew her adventure had just begun. She would return every sunset, and together they would help others find their way to kindness.

The next morning, Maya's village woke to find their wells full, their gardens blooming. And no one was surprised that a golden cat now slept on Maya's pillow, dreaming of pyramids and possibilities.
