The Cat Who Knew Secrets

Lily was sitting under the oak tree when she noticed something strange. Her orange tabby cat, Marmalade, was staring at her mom's old iPhone on the grass. The screen flickered with a golden light, and suddenly, a tiny sphinx no bigger than a thumb appeared on the screen!

"Greetings, young friend," the sphinx purred, her wings shimmering like rainbows. "I am Cleopatra, guardian of riddles. Your cat has been watching you — she's quite the little spy!"

Lily gasped. "Marmalade? You've been spying on me?"

The cat rubbed against Lily's leg and meowed softly. Through the iPhone, Cleopatra translated: "She only watches because she loves you, dear one. She wants to protect you."

Lily felt her cheeks get hot. "I've been hiding something," she admitted. "At school, I didn't want anyone to know I still sleep with my stuffed bunny. I thought everyone would laugh."

The sphinx's eyes twinkled. "Ah, a riddle of the heart! Here is my question: What makes a friend true?"

Lily thought hard. "Someone who likes you even when you're different?"

"Exactly!" Cleopatra's laughter chimed like bells. "Real friends never spy to find secrets to hurt you. They watch over you with love. Like your cat."

Marmalade purred loudly, curling around Lily's feet.

"Your cat knows your heart," the sphinx continued. "She knows you're kind, brave, and wonderful — stuffed bunny and all!"

The iPhone's light began to fade. "Remember, young one: true friends celebrate what makes you special. They never use secrets against you."

As the sphinx disappeared, Lily hugged Marmalade tight. "You're the best friend ever," she whispered. "And tomorrow, I'm going to tell my classmates about Bunny. They might be surprised, but that's okay. The real friends will stay."

That night, Lily slept peacefully with both her cat and her stuffed bunny — no longer afraid of who might see. She had learned something magical: real friends don't need secrets to be close.
