The Cat Who Knew Everything

Mia loved the old garden behind her grandmother's house. It had a secret pool, tucked beneath weeping willow trees, where the water shone like liquid silver.

Every afternoon, a fluffy orange cat would appear, sitting by the pool's edge as if waiting for something important. His name was Rusty, though Mia called him the Wizard Cat because his green eyes seemed to hold secrets.

One summer evening, Mia was running through the garden when Rusty meowed urgently and pawed at her ankle. He led her to the pool, but something was wrong. The usually sparkling water had turned still and gray. Even the dragonflies had stopped dancing.

'What happened?' Mia whispered.

Rusty jumped onto a flat stone by the water. He touched his nose to a single wilted lily pad, and suddenly the pad wiggled. Then another. Then ALL of them!

'They're not dead,' Mia gasped. 'They're...'

'Zombie lily pads!' Rusty seemed to say, his tail twitching with amusement. The sleepy plants weren't gone at all—they were just waking up from their winter rest, stretching their green limbs toward the warm sun.

Mia laughed with delight as the whole pool came alive. Fish who'd been hiding deep below darted to the surface like tiny rainbows. A frog croaked a happy hello. Even the water itself began to shimmer and dance again.

Rusty purred proudly, and Mia understood: sometimes things that look lifeless are just waiting for the right moment to shine. Even the quietest, sleepiest moments hold magic—if you're patient enough to see it.

From that day on, Mia never hurried past anything that seemed still or quiet. Instead, she whispered, 'I'll wait for you to wake up,' just like the Wizard Cat had taught her.

And sometimes, when she was very lucky, she would catch him running through the garden at twilight, making sure everything in the magical pool was exactly where it belonged.
