The Cat Who Kicked the Pyramid

Lily's favorite possession was her grandfather's old iPhone. It didn't make calls anymore—instead, it showed the most wonderful things. One rainy afternoon, she swiped the screen and saw a glowing golden pyramid.

"Tap three times," whispered a silky voice.

Lily jumped. A ginger cat with emerald eyes sat on her windowsill, watching her.

"I'm Mittens," the cat said. "And I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find the pyramid."

Lily's eyes widened. Cats didn't talk!

"Touch the screen," Mittens urged. "But bring your baseball glove. You'll need it."

Lily tapped the glowing pyramid three times. WHOOSH! Her room swirled like cotton candy. When everything stopped spinning, she stood in a golden desert with Mittens by her side.

Before them rose a magnificent pyramid, shining like honey in the sun.

"The Great Pyramid of Wonder," Mittens explained. "But something's wrong inside. The Sphinx who guards it has lost her smile."

Inside, Lily discovered a room filled with floating baseballs. A stone Sphinx sat sadly in the corner.

"I'm bored," the Sphinx rumbled. "No one has played with me in three thousand years."

Lily's eyes lit up. "I know what to do!"

She pulled out her baseball glove. "Mittens, you pitch! I'll catch!"

The cat leaped gracefully, tossing perfect pitches. Lily caught every one, diving and rolling in the sandy air. The Sphinx watched, her stone face slowly curving upward.

"May I try?" the Sphinx asked.

Lily tossed the ball. The Sphinx's stone paw swiped—and knocked it straight through the pyramid's ceiling! Stars twinkled through the hole.

"Best game ever!" the Sphinx cheered. "You've made me smile again!"

As thanks, she pressed her paw against Lily's iPhone. A glowing baseball sticker appeared on the screen.

"Visit anytime," Mittens purred as the room spun back to Lily's bedroom.

Lily hugged her cat tight. Some adventures were worth sharing—even with a talking cat who could pitch a mean curveball.

From that day on, whenever Lily looked at her iPhone, she remembered: magic lives everywhere, especially when you take time to play with lonely friends.
