The Cat Who Hit Lightning
Emma loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, she'd practice hitting in her backyard, dreaming of hitting the perfect home run. But she was small, and the ball always landed in the grass.
One rainy afternoon, as storm clouds gathered, Emma spotted a sleek black cat perched on the wooden fence. The cat had the most brilliant yellow eyes, like two tiny lightning bolts.
"Meow," said the cat, as if trying to tell her something important.
Emma followed the curious cat through her backyard and into the mysterious woods beyond. There, she discovered something magical—a single palm tree growing where no palm tree should be, its leaves shimmering with an otherworldly glow.
The cat circled the tree's trunk and dug at something with its paws. Emma knelt down and found a patch of vibrant green spinach growing at the base of the palm tree. But this wasn't ordinary spinach—the leaves sparkled like emeralds.
"Eat this," the cat seemed to say with its big yellow eyes.
Emma took a bite. Suddenly, she felt energy zing through her body, stronger and faster than anything she'd ever felt. She grabbed her baseball bat from her backpack, which she'd brought along just in case.
Just then, a real lightning bolt cracked across the sky. Emma, now feeling magical and brave, pointed her bat upward. The lightning bolt—instead of striking the ground—curved toward her bat and... KABOOM!
She hit the lightning like a baseball, sending it shooting back into the sky where it exploded into a beautiful rainbow that lit up the whole neighborhood.
The cat purred with approval. Emma realized she had discovered something wonderful: sometimes the smallest creatures and the most unexpected things (like magical spinach) can help us find our true power.
From that day on, whenever a storm came, Emma and her cat friend would practice hitting lightning together, turning scary storms into beautiful light shows for the whole town to enjoy. And Emma learned that being small doesn't mean you can't do big, magical things.
