The Cat Who Guarded Wonders

iphonecatpool

Lily was bored. Summer stretched long and hot, and she had nothing to do but stare at her mom's old **iPhone**, sitting on the kitchen counter like a sleeping silver rectangle.

"Please, Mom? Just for ten minutes?"

But Mom was busy with work, and Lily sighed, wandering out to the backyard where the blue water of the **pool** shimmered like a giant sapphire under the afternoon sun.

Then she saw him — a fluffy orange **cat** sitting on the pool's edge, tail twitching, staring into the water as if it held the answers to all the universe's questions.

"Hello there," Lily whispered, not wanting to scare him away.

The cat turned. His emerald eyes sparkled with unusual intelligence. He didn't run. Instead, he let out the softest, most musical meow Lily had ever heard, then dipped one paw into the pool.

*RIIIIIING!*

Lily's eyes widened. The sound wasn't coming from the house. It was coming from the **pool** itself!

The cat meowed again, and the water began to glow with swirls of silver and gold. Tiny ripples spread outward, each one carrying a different sound — children laughing, wind chimes, birds singing, waves crashing on distant beaches.

"Are you... making the pool sing?" Lily asked, hardly daring to breathe.

The orange **cat** blinked slowly and purred so deeply that Lily could feel it in her toes. Then, with a graceful leap, he landed right on the floating pool raft, curling up like he owned the place.

Lily's mom came outside then. "Lily, I need to make some calls. Do you want to play with my old **iPhone** for a bit? I downloaded some drawing apps for you."

But Lily was already stepping toward the pool's edge, where the water still shimmered with traces of magic. She looked at the orange cat, who was now watching her with what looked suspiciously like a smile.

"No thanks, Mom," Lily said, something warm and wonderful blooming in her chest. "I have something better than any app."

She sat beside the pool, and the cat inched closer, letting her stroke his soft fur. Together, they watched the water, listening to its magical songs, and Lily realized that the best adventures weren't found on any screen — they were waiting right here, in the warm sunshine, in the company of a new friend.

The orange cat purred, the pool sparkled, and Lily knew this summer would be full of wonders she'd never forget.
