The Cat Who Guarded Dreams
Mia never understood why her black cat, Midnight, always disappeared at bedtime. One night, curious as ever, she tiptoed after him as he sprinted through the garden gate. She wasn't running fast - just enough to keep his silvery tail in sight.
Midnight led her to a hidden circle of old oak trees, where he stopped beside something glowing on the mossy ground. An old iphone, but not like any phone Mia had seen before. It shimmered with rainbow light.
"Touch it," Midnight whispered. Mia gasped - her cat could talk!
When her finger grazed the screen, the world transformed. Trees stretched tall, leaves turned to silver stars, and the ground became a court of moonlight. Midnight stood on two paws, holding a glowing racquet.
"Welcome to the Dream Court," he purred. "This is where we play padel - but not for points. Each ball of stardust we hit carries a beautiful dream to a child who needs it most."
Mia's own racquet appeared, warm and humming in her hands. They played together - her running across the moonlit court, Midnight gracefully leaping to return shots. With every whack of the racquet, a spark floated upward, carrying dreams of flying, friendship, and endless wonder.
"Why me?" Mia asked, breathless with joy.
"Because you followed wonder. Because you care." Midnight's green eyes shone. "Children who believe in magic become its guardians."
They played until dawn, filling the night sky with dream-fragments that would visit sleepers around the world. When Mia woke in her bed, Midnight purred softly beside her, just an ordinary cat again. But on her nightstand sat a tiny, glowing stardust ball, and in her heart, she knew the truth.
Now every night, when other children sleep, Mia and Midnight guard the dreams - running the Dream Court, playing their magical game, sending hope to every child who needs it. Because magic, she learned, isn't just about wonder. It's about kindness, shared joy, and never being too old to believe.
And somewhere, right now, a child is smiling in their sleep because Mia and Midnight made a perfect shot.
