The Cat Who Craved Green Lightning
Leo sat by the window, watching the storm paint the sky with jagged bolts of lightning. His mom had just served dinner, but he wasn't hungry. The spinach on his plate looked like a sad forest.
A flash of white light illuminated something moving in the garden.
A cat!
Leo ran outside, rain sprinkling his face. The cat was orange with emerald eyes, crouched under the porch. It shivered but didn't run away.
"You're scared of storms too?" Leo whispered.
The cat nudged his hand. Its fur felt electric, like tiny sparks dancing against his skin.
Leo's stomach rumbled. "I have dinner inside. Want to come?"
The cat followed him through the back door. Leo sat at the table, the cat beside him. He picked up a piece of spinach, making a face.
The cat's eyes widened. It reached up with one paw and tapped the spinach.
"You... want this?" Leo laughed. "Cats don't eat spinach!"
But this cat did. It gobbled every green leaf from Leo's plate, purring like a tiny motor.
Suddenly, lightning struck right outside. The house shook. The cat's fur began to glow golden, brighter and brighter until Leo had to squint.
A voice filled his mind, soft as rain: "Thank you for your kindness. Spinach is my magic fuel."
Leo gasped. "You can talk?"
"I am Lightning Cat," the voice said. "I fell from the sky during last night's storm. I was too weak to fly home. But you shared your dinner even though you didn't want to eat it yourself. That's the truest magic."
The cat hovered above the floor, surrounded by crackling golden light.
"Will I see you again?" Leo asked.
"Whenever lightning flashes, look for my glow," Lightning Cat said. "And remember: sharing what you have, even when it's something you don't want, makes you powerful."The cat shot through the ceiling like a living lightning bolt, vanishing into the storm.
Leo smiled. He finished the rest of his spinach, suddenly feeling magical himself.
Now, every thunderstorm, Leo watches for orange sparks among the lightning. And sometimes, just sometimes, he leaves a piece of spinach on the windowsill, just in case his friend needs a little magic to find the way home.
