The Cat Who Could See Everything

Lily had the curliest hair in her whole class. It bounced when she walked and sprang when she laughed. But her favorite thing about her hair was that it made the perfect hiding spot for Mittens, her fluffy orange cat.

Mittens wasn't an ordinary cat. Every night, while the house slept, Mittens would creep through the cat door and become a secret spy. She patrolled the neighborhood, making sure everyone was safe and sound.

One Tuesday, Mittens discovered something amazing. In the window of the old house on Maple Street sat a lonely goldfish named Bubbles. But Bubbles wasn't just any goldfish — she could grant wishes!

"I've been waiting for someone kind enough to find me," Bubbles bubbled. "What would you wish for?"

Mittens thought carefully. She could wish for endless tuna treats. She could wish for a softer bed. She could wish for the biggest yarn ball in the world.

But then Mittens thought about Lily. Every day after school, Lily sat alone at the playground, watching the other children play baseball. Lily wanted to join in, but she was too shy.

"I wish for Lily to have a friend who loves baseball as much as she does," Mittens meowed.

Bubbles shimmered with golden light. "Your wish is granted because you thought of someone else first. That's the most powerful magic of all."

The very next day, a new girl named Sophie moved in next door. She carried a baseball glove and had the biggest smile. "Want to play catch?" she asked Lily.

Lily's curly hair bounced as she nodded yes.

And Mittens? She became the best spy ever, because now she had two girls to watch over instead of one. Sometimes, when the sun was just right, you could see a little golden sparkle following them both — Bubbles' way of saying thank you.

Mittens learned that the best wishes aren't the ones we make for ourselves. The magic is in making others happy, and true friends are worth more than all the goldfish in the sea.
