The Cat Who Could Fly
Mittens was no ordinary cat. While other cats spent their days napping in sunbeams or chasing mice, Mittens had a secret. She could fly.
One hot summer day, Mittens sat by the swimming pool watching the children play. Timmy stood nervously at the edge, afraid to jump in. The other kids were having so much fun splashing around.
"Come on, Timmy!" called his friend Lily. "The water feels amazing!"
Timmy shook his head. He couldn't swim.
Mittens knew she had to help. But first, she needed to investigate. She became a tiny spy, creeping closer to hear what the kids were saying.
"My dad says learning to swim is like learning to ride a bike," Timmy said softly. "Once you know how, you never forget. But what if I sink?"
Mittens had an idea. She spotted a bright orange floatie shaped like a baseball bobbing near the pool's edge. Perfect!
She used her special flying power—quick, like a butterfly fluttering—to swoop down and grab the orange baseball floatie in her paws. Then she gently dropped it right beside Timmy.
Timmy's eyes grew wide. "Hey! That looks like a baseball!"
The other kids gathered around. "Cool!" said Lily. "Let's play catch in the shallow end. You don't even have to swim—we can just stand there and toss it back and forth."
Timmy's fear melted away. He loved baseball! He stepped into the shallow water, giggling as it tickled his toes. Soon, he was splashing, laughing, and tossing the orange floatie with his friends.
Mittens watched from her hiding spot in the bushes, purring with satisfaction. Sometimes, the best adventures start with a little courage and a friend who believes in you—even if that friend happens to be a flying cat.
That day, Timmy learned two things: how to be brave, and that magic is real. Because only magic could explain how a orange baseball floatie appeared exactly when he needed it most.
And Mittens? She learned that helping others face their fears was even better than flying. Well, almost.
