The Cat Who Collected Sunlight

Lily found the cat behind the old orange tree in her grandmother's garden. The cat—small as a teacup, with fur the color of autumn leaves—sat wearing what looked like a tiny pink knit hat. Lily had knitted that hat herself! She'd lost it months ago.

"Where did you find my hat?" Lily whispered, kneeling down.

The cat simply purred and tapped a dusty iPhone lying beside her. Lily's grandmother had given her the old phone to play with, though it no longer made calls. Curious, Lily touched the screen.

To her amazement, it flickered to life, showing not apps or games, but tiny floating particles of golden light.

"This is..." Lily gasped.

"Sunlight," the cat spoke in a voice like gentle chimes. "I collect it. Want to see?"

Lily nodded, her heart racing with wonder.

Together, they followed the glowing particles through the garden. The cat explained that she'd been collecting sunlight for three hundred years, storing it in oranges to give to children who needed extra happiness. The hat helped her stay invisible to grown-ups, and the old iPhone showed her where sunlight was needed most.

They traveled through puddles that became portals and climbed rainbows like ladders. In a dark alley where a sad boy sat alone, they left an orange that glowed for three seconds. His face lit up as he took a bite.

In a hospital room where a little girl couldn't sleep, they placed an orange under her pillow. She dreamed of flying.

By sunset, they'd delivered sunlight to twelve children. The cat's tiny hat had fallen off during their adventures.

"You keep it," the cat said. "You found me, after all. Now you're a Sunlight Collector too."

Lily placed the hat on her own head. That night, she dreamed of all the children she'd help tomorrow. Her iPhone showed new glowing particles already gathering, waiting to be collected.

And so Lily learned that magic isn't about grand gestures—it's about small acts of kindness, shared like sunlight, one orange at a time.
