The Cat Who Collected Stars
Lily loved sitting in her backyard, especially under the old palm tree that swayed in the warm breeze. But her favorite thing was watching Mittens, her fluffy orange cat, who wasn't like other cats. Mittens had a secret.
One starry night, Lily followed Mittens as he darted between the houses, his tail flicking with excitement. She found herself running after him through the moonlit park, past the playground, and toward the mysterious hill that everyone called the Pyramid because of its shape. Children whispered that magic lived there.
At the top, Lily gasped. Mittens stood on his hind legs, pawing at the air. But he wasn't just pawing — he was catching falling stars! Each time his gentle palm (of his paw) touched a star, it glowed brighter and floated into a small bag beside him.
"Mittens!" Lily whispered. The cat turned, his emerald eyes twinkling. He nudged a glowing star toward her. When Lily's hand touched it, warm feelings filled her heart — memories of laughter, friendship, and kindness.
"I collect forgotten happy moments," Mittens seemed to say, though cats don't talk. "People lose them like they lose things. I keep them safe."
Lily understood. The stars weren't just stars — they were happy thoughts people had stopped noticing. Together, she and Mittens spent the night gathering lost joy: a grandmother's smile, a baby's first laugh, a friend's forgiveness.
By dawn, Mittens had hundreds of glowing stars. One by one, he released them back into the sky, where they burst like fireworks, sending those happy feelings back to the people who needed them most.
"Thank you," Lily hugged her magical cat. Mittens purred, his palm pressing against her cheek. From that night on, Lily learned that happiness isn't something you find — it's something you notice, share, and never let fade away like forgotten stars.
