The Cat Who Collected Starlight

Mittens was a small orange cat with big dreams. Every night, while other cats slept, she climbed to the top of the old oak tree and watched stars dance across the sky. She wished she could catch one.

One moonless night, Mittens heard splashing in the woods below. Curious, she crept down and discovered something magical—a glowing pool hidden among ancient ferns. The water shimmered like liquid silver, and tiny specks of light floated within it.

"Starlight!" Mittens whispered, dipping her paw. The water didn't feel wet—it felt warm, like sunshine on fur. Each glowing speck was a tiny star that had fallen from the sky, dissolved into something wonderful.

An old owl appeared above her. "This is the Star Pool," he hooted wisely. "Each speck of starlight is a special vitamin—not for bodies, but for hearts. Joy-vitamin. Wonder-vitamin. Friendship-vitamin."

Mittens's whiskers twitched with excitement. "Can I share them?"

"That's why they're here," said the owl. "Stars shine brightest when shared."

Mittens thought of lonely Mr. Barker, whose dog had passed away. She thought of shy Lila, who had no friends at school. She thought of grumpy Mrs. Peabody, who never smiled.

Carefully, Mittens collected droplets of starlit water on leaves. She carried them through town like tiny lanterns, placing each one where it was needed most.

The next morning, magical things happened. Mr. Barker woke to find his garden blooming with flowers that hummed soft melodies. Lila discovered her shoes left trails of glitter wherever she walked, and other children asked to join her game. Even Mrs. Peabody found her teapot poured tea that tasted like chocolate cake.

Mittens returned to the pool that evening. The water glowed brighter than before.

"Thank you, cat," the owl said. "You learned the secret. Starlight multiplies when given away."

Mittens purred, understanding now. The best vitamin isn't found in bottles—it's found in kindness. And she had an endless supply to share.

From then on, Mittens became known as the Starlight Cat, though only a few knew her real magic came from a hidden pool and a generous heart. Every star she shared made her own glow even brighter.
