The Cat Who Chased Lightning
Mittens was no ordinary cat. While other cats chased mice or napped in sunbeams, Mittens chased something much more exciting—lightning.
Every time a thunderstorm rolled over their little town, Mittens would sit on the windowsill, her golden eyes wide with wonder. When lightning flashed across the sky, she would wiggle her whiskers and meow at the bright streaks, as if trying to say hello.
One rainy afternoon, Mittens escaped through an open door and ran to the park. There, she saw something magical—a glowing padel racket left near the tennis courts. But this wasn't just any racket. It shimmered with strange energy, and when Mittens brushed against it with her paw, tiny sparks danced around her.
Suddenly, the sky darkened, and a bolt of lightning struck nearby. But instead of running away, Mittens felt brave. She noticed the lightning wasn't just a flash of light—it was a playful creature, bouncing like a ball!
The magical padel racket began to float, and Mittens understood what she needed to do. She batted at the lightning with the racket, and to her delight, the lightning ball bounced back! They played the most wonderful game—cat and lightning, dancing together in the storm.
From behind a tree, a little girl named Lily watched in amazement. She had been crying because she was lost and afraid of the storm, but now she forgot her fear as she watched the brave cat's magical game.
When the game ended and the sun peeked through the clouds, Mittens noticed the girl. Instead of running away, the cat approached slowly and purred softly, rubbing against Lily's leg. Lily giggled, her tears forgotten.
"You're the bravest cat ever," Lily whispered, scratching Mittens behind the ears. "Will you be my friend?"
Mittens purred even louder. That day, a lonely girl and a magical cat found each other. And whenever storms came, they would watch together, knowing that lightning wasn't something to fear—it was just looking for someone to play with.
