The Cat Who Chased Lightning

Mittens was no ordinary cat. She had fur the color of storm clouds and eyes that flashed like stars. Every night, she sat by the window, watching the sky.

One evening, as lightning cracked across the dark heavens, something extraordinary happened. A bolt of lightning didn't just flash—it danced down a telephone cable right outside Mittens' window, sizzling and popping with magical blue light.

Mittens' tail puffed up like a dandelion. She knew this was her moment.

The little orange cat squeezed through the window and began running along the garden fence, following the glowing cable as it wound through the neighborhood like a mysterious silver snake. The lightning spark pulsed ahead, guiding her deeper into the night.

Other cats peeked from windows. Dogs tilted their heads. But Mittens kept running, her paws barely touching the ground. She could feel electricity tingling in her whiskers.

Finally, the cable led to an old tree where a baby bird had fallen from its nest during the storm. The lightning spark swirled around the frightened bird, warming it with gentle, magical light.

Mittens understood. The lightning wasn't just showing off—it was helping!

The brave cat curled around the bird, purring so loudly the nearby leaves shivered. Together, cat and lightning kept the little bird safe until morning, when its mother returned with worms and grateful chirps.

As dawn painted the sky pink, the lightning spark fizzled back up the cable and returned to the clouds. Mittens trotted home, her fur now carrying tiny golden sparks that wouldn't fade.

From that night on, whenever storms rolled through, Mittens would sit by her window. And sometimes, just sometimes, she'd see a familiar blue spark dancing on the cable—a hello from her lightning friend, reminding her that even the smallest creatures can make the biggest difference.

The other cats never understood why Mittens loved stormy nights. But she knew the truth: magic is real, and sometimes all you need to do is follow the spark.
