The Cat Who Caught Sunshine

Barnaby was no ordinary cat. While other cats chased mice or napped in sunbeams, Barnaby had a secret dream: he wanted to play padel. Every morning, he would sit by the garden fence, watching the children hit the bouncing ball back and forth across the net. His emerald eyes grew wide with wonder as the ball sailed through the air like a tiny moon.

One afternoon, a little girl named Lily noticed Barnaby watching. Unlike most children who would have shooed him away, she smiled and waved. 'Would you like to play?' she asked, as if cats could understand her.

Barnaby's tail twitched with excitement. Lily had an old wooden racquet just his size, and she taught him how to stand on his hind legs and swing. To everyone's amazement, Barnaby was a natural! His paws were quick as lightning, and he could predict where the ball would go before it even arrived.

But something was wrong. After a week of playing, Barnaby grew tired. His beautiful orange fur lost its shine, and he could barely jump. The veterinarian said he needed something special—a rare vitamin found only in the legendary Golden Orange that grew at the top of Sunbeam Mountain.

Lily refused to let her friend give up. Together, they climbed the mountain, past clouds that tasted like cotton candy and through meadows where flowers hummed gentle songs. At the peak, they found the Golden Orange glowing like a tiny sun.

But it was guarded by a grumpy squirrel who demanded they answer a riddle: 'What is worth more than treasure but costs nothing to give?'

Barnaby and Lily looked at each other. 'Friendship!' they cried together.

The squirrel smiled and let them take the Golden Orange. Barnaby ate one slice and immediately felt energy surge through him like sunshine. His fur became more brilliant than ever, and his eyes sparkled with joy.

From that day on, Barnaby and Lily played padel every afternoon. And whenever a new friend needed help, they would remember that the best medicine doesn't come from oranges or vitamins—it comes from kindness, friendship, and never giving up on your dreams.
