The Cat Who Caught Stars

Lily loved her cat Whiskers more than anything in the world. He was an ordinary orange tabby, or so she thought, until the night he started glowing like a tiny moon.

It happened on a Tuesday when Lily was playing with her favorite baseball in the backyard. She tossed the ball high, hoping Whiskers might chase it. Instead, the cat leaped into the air and—POOF!—disappeared right into the moonlight!

"Whiskers!" Lily cried, racing inside to grab her father's old iphone from the kitchen counter. She'd downloaded a star app last week, the kind that showed constellations when you pointed it at the sky.

The iphone's screen lit up the backyard. Lily pointed it upward, and there among the stars, she saw something amazing. Little paw prints glowing in the night sky, leading straight to the Big Dipper!

Whiskers wasn't just jumping high. He was star-hopping!

Lily made a decision. She tucked her baseball into her pocket, grabbed some cat treats, and whispered to the iphone, "Show me the way."

The screen pulsed with magic. Suddenly, Lily felt lighter than air, floating upward past the oak tree, past the clouds, until she stood among the twinkling stars.

There was Whiskers, batting at a real star like it was a ball of yarn!

"Whiskers!" she called. "What are you doing?"

The cat looked at her with wise, ancient eyes. "The stars are lonely, Lily. They need someone to play with them."

Lily understood. She pulled out her baseball. "Want to play catch?"

For hours they played baseball among the constellations, tossing the ball back and forth while shooting stars zoomed past like fireworks. The stars twinkled brighter, happier than they'd been in a thousand years.

When it was time to return to Earth, Whiskers nuzzled Lily's hand. "Thank you for believing in magic," he purred.

Lily drifted back to her bed, the iphone clutched in her hand. When she checked it in the morning, the star app showed something new: a tiny constellation shaped like a cat, holding a baseball in its paws.

Sometimes the best adventures happen when you least expect them, especially with a friend who believes in the impossible.
