The Cat Who Caught Starlight

Mittens was a very small cat with very big dreams. Every night, she sat on her fence watching the sky, wishing she could catch a falling star.

One rainy evening, a sleek red fox appeared beside her. "I'm Fern," said the fox. "I know where the stars go when they fall."

Mittens' green eyes went wide. "Really?"

"Yes," Fern nodded. "But it's a secret journey. Are you brave enough?"

Mittens stood tall. "I'm not afraid of anything!"

Just then—CRACK! A bolt of lightning split the sky, brighter than anything Mittens had ever seen. It struck the old oak tree in the meadow, and something glowing tumbled into the tall grass.

"Quick!" Fern cried. "That's a piece of star lightning! It's the most powerful magic in the world!"

They raced through the wet grass together. Mittens found it first—a tiny crystal that hummed with warm light.

"What does it do?" Mittens asked, nose to nose with the glowing stone.

"It's like a vitamin for your courage," Fern explained. "A little bit of star magic makes you braver than you ever imagined."

Mittens touched it with her paw. ZING! Warmth spread through her whole body. She felt her fur stand up with energy, but not with fear—with excitement!

"Wow," she whispered.

"The magic works best when shared," Fern said wisely. "Who else needs courage tonight?"

Mittens thought of her friend Pip, a tiny mouse who was too scared to leave his hole. "Follow me!"

Together, cat and fox carried the starlight through the meadow. When they reached Pip's home, Mittens let the little mouse touch the crystal. Pip's eyes grew round. "I feel... I feel like I could climb a mountain!"

"Not a mountain," Fern laughed. "But maybe you could finally meet your neighbor the rabbit?"

Pip nodded bravely. "Yes!"

The starlight grew dimmer, but it had given its magic to three friends now. Mittens realized something wonderful: she hadn't just caught a falling star—she had found friendship and courage that would shine forever.

"Thank you, Fern," Mittens purred as dawn painted the sky pink.

"Thank you, little cat," Fern replied. "You caught the star, but you shared the light."
