The Cat Who Caught Lightning
In the deepest part of the Whispering Woods lived a enormous bear named Barnaby. Barnaby was the biggest bear anyone had ever seen, but he had a secret fear. He was terrified of storms.
One evening, dark clouds gathered above the forest. Thunder rumbled like a tummy that needed dinner. Barnaby squeezed his eyes shut and hid inside his cozy cave.
"I wish I wasn't so afraid," Barnaby sighed.
Suddenly, something small and orange dashed past his cave. It was a tiny cat named Clementine! Clementine wasn't running away from the storm. She was running toward it.
"Wait!" called Barnaby. "Where are you going?"
"To catch lightning!" Clementine meowed excitedly.
Barnaby couldn't believe his ears. "But lightning is scary!"
"Not at all," Clementine said. "Lightning is like magic fireworks in the sky. Watch this!"
A bright bolt of lightning flashed across the sky. Clementine reached up with her paw, and something amazing happened. The lightning bounced around her like a ball of golden light!
"See?" Clementine purred. "The lightning just wants to play. But it's very lonely up there in the clouds. It needs someone to catch it."
Barnaby's eyes grew wide. "You mean... lightning isn't trying to hurt us?"
"Lightning is like a puppy that doesn't know its own strength," Clementine explained. "It just wants to be friends."
A huge lightning bolt zoomed down and tumbled around Barnaby's big paws. It felt warm and tingly, like sunshine made of bubbles. Barnaby started to laugh!
"It tickles!" Barnaby giggled. "I've never been scared of something that wants to play!"
"Exactly!" Clementine said. "Sometimes the things we fear are just waiting for us to say hello."
From that day on, whenever storms came to the Whispering Woods, all the animals would watch as Barnaby the bear and Clementine the cat danced in the rain, catching lightning and turning scary storms into the most beautiful light show anyone had ever seen.
Barnaby learned that being brave doesn't mean not being scared. Being brave means giving scary things a chance to become friends instead.
