The Cat Who Caught Lightning

Barnaby was a small orange cat with the biggest dreams. Every night, he sat by the window, watching the sky. But when storms came, Barnaby hid under the bed. He was afraid of the loud crashes and bright flashes.

One rainy afternoon, Barnaby's owner Lily brought home something new—a glass bowl with a shimmering goldfish inside. The fish had scales like tiny rainbows.

"Hello," said the goldfish. "My name is Glitter."

Barnaby's eyes grew wide. "You can talk!"

"Only to those who listen carefully," Glitter swam in a lazy circle. "I know you're afraid of storms, but I also know you wish you weren't."

Barnaby nodded. "I want to be brave."

That night, a huge storm rolled in. Thunder shook the house. Lightning flashed across the sky like jagged ribbons of light. Barnaby started to run under the bed.

"Wait!" called Glitter. "Look at the lightning, Barnaby. Really look."

Barnaby paused. Through the window, he saw something amazing. The lightning wasn't scary at all—it was beautiful. It painted the sky with brilliant colors.

"Lightning is just the sky saying hello," Glitter said. "Like I said to you."

Barnaby watched, fascinated. He saw a bolt strike a nearby tree, and for a moment, something sparkled in its branches.

"What was that?" Barnaby asked.

"Magic," whispered Glitter. "Lightning leaves magic wherever it touches."

The next morning, Barnaby and Lily went outside. In the tree was a glowing feather—pure magic from the storm. Barnaby touched it with his paw, and suddenly, he wasn't just a regular cat anymore. He could understand all creatures.

Barnaby learned something important that day: sometimes the things we fear most hold the most magic. And with a good friend like Glitter, even the scariest storms can become beautiful adventures.

From then on, Barnaby never hid during storms. He sat by the window with Glitter, watching for magic in every flash of lightning.
