The Cat Who Caught Lightning

Mittens was a small orange cat who lived in an apartment building, always looking out the window at the world below. One rainy evening, she watched a thick black cable snaking up the side of the building. It looked like a friendly vine, and Mittens wished she could climb it to see where it led.

That night, a storm rolled in. Rain drummed against the glass, and then—a flash of lightning split the sky! It was bright and beautiful, like the whole world had blinked.

Mittens watched as another bolt struck the cable outside. Instead of burning it, the lightning made the cable glow and sparkle like a thousand tiny stars. Curious, Mittens crept closer to the window and pressed her paw against the glass. To her surprise, the glowing cable seemed to beckon to her.

The window had been left slightly open, just a crack. Mittens squeezed through and stepped onto the magical cable. It hummed beneath her paws, warm and alive, like a purring friend. She climbed higher and higher, up toward the roof where the lightning had kissed the cable.

When she reached the top, she found something wonderful. The lightning had left behind a glowing orb of light—a tiny piece of star fallen to earth. The orb floated toward Mittens and nestled in her fur, making her coat shimmer with rainbows.

Mittens climbed back down, her new friend lighting the way. Inside her apartment, she placed the glowing orb beside her bed. That night, she dreamed of lightning storms and magical adventures.

From then on, whenever storms came, Mittens would watch the cable and remember the night she caught a piece of lightning. She had discovered that sometimes the most magical things arrive in storms, and that even a small cat could catch starlight if she was brave enough to climb toward it.

And every night, the little orb glowed softly, reminding her that magic exists everywhere—you just have to be curious enough to find it.
