The Cat Who Caught Lightning
Max loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, he'd grab his glove and run to the old field behind his house. But today something magical happened.
A small orange cat with glowing green eyes sat on home plate, watching Max practice his pitching. Max had never seen this cat before. When he threw the ball, the cat didn't run away. Instead, she batted it back with her paw!
"You're good!" Max laughed. "Want to play?"
The cat meowed and nudged an old TV cable lying in the grass. Max had found it weeks ago while cleaning the garage. Something sparkled inside the cable—tiny lights like captured stars.
"What's this, Mittens?" Max named the cat on the spot. She purred loudly.
Suddenly, storm clouds gathered. CRACK! Lightning struck an old tree near the field. But instead of burning it, the lightning danced along the ground, straight toward Max and Mittens.
Max was scared, but Mittens stepped forward bravely. She touched the glowing cable with her paw, and the lightning flowed right into it! The cable lit up brilliantly, like a snake made of pure light.
Mittens wasn't just a cat—she was a guardian of magical storms! The cable was her special lightning catcher, and she needed Max's help to recharge it.
"Why me?" Max asked in wonder.
Mittens rubbed against his leg. Max understood: she saw his kindness, how he never gave up even when he missed the ball, how he shared his snacks with stray animals. Bravery isn't about not being scared. It's about doing what's right even when you ARE scared.
Together, Max and Mittens became the best team. When storms came, they caught lightning together. Max even learned to hit his baseball so high it sparkled like tiny lightning bolts!
And whenever Max plays baseball now, Mittens is there, watching with her glowing green eyes, ready for their next magical adventure.
