The Cat Who Caught Dreams
Lily loved baseball more than anything. Every afternoon, she'd grab her glove and head to the park, dreaming of hitting the perfect home run. But there was one problem—she always played alone.
One sunny afternoon, Lily tossed her ball high into the air. She swung her bat with all her might, but missed completely. The ball sailed over the fence and disappeared into the mysterious woods behind the park.
"Oh no!" Lily cried. She peered through the fence but couldn't see her baseball anywhere.
Suddenly, two glowing yellow eyes appeared between the trees. A sleek black cat emerged, carrying something in its mouth. Lily's baseball!
The cat trotted right up to the fence and dropped the ball at Lily's feet. Then, to her amazement, the cat spoke.
"You throw like you're afraid of the sky," the cat said with a mischievous grin. "I'm Whisker, and I've been watching you. Want a real friend to play with?"
Lily's eyes widened. "You can talk? And you know baseball?"
"I know many things," Whisker purred. "In my world, baseball is played with shooting stars and moon dust. But here, this ball will do."
That afternoon, Lily learned more about baseball than she ever had before. Whisker taught her how to listen to the wind, how to feel the perfect pitch in her bones, and how to believe in herself before every swing.
"The secret," Whisker said, "is that the ball wants to be hit. You just have to ask it nicely."
Lily closed her eyes, imagined the ball flying through the air, and swung. CRACK! The ball soared higher than ever before, sparkling like it had caught a piece of sunlight.
"You did it!" Whisker cheered. "And now, you'll never have to play alone again. A true friend is someone who believes in your dreams—even the impossible ones."
From that day on, Lily and Whisker played baseball every afternoon. And sometimes, when Lily hit the ball just right, she could hear it purring as it flew through the sky, carrying her dreams to the stars.
