Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house by the sea. Every afternoon, she'd sit on the weathered wooden dock, dangling her feet over the sparkling blue water. But today was different.

A sleek orange cat appeared at the end of the dock, wearing something peculiar around its neck—a small silver capsule attached to a thin cable.

"Hello there," Lily whispered, reaching out slowly.

The cat didn't run away. Instead, it padded closer and sat beside her, blinking intelligent green eyes.

"My name is Whiskers," said the cat.

Lily gasped. "You can talk!"

"Only to special children," Whiskers purred. "I'm a spy for the Merfolk Kingdom. My job is to carry messages between land and sea."

The cat explained that the cable around his neck was magical—it carried waterproof scrolls filled with secrets from the underwater world. Whiskers would swim beneath the waves, collect messages from mermaids and sea creatures, then deliver them to children who needed to hear them.

"Would you like to see a message?" Whiskers asked.

Lily nodded eagerly.

The cat pulled a tiny scroll from the silver capsule using his paw. As Lily unrolled it, sparkling letters appeared:

"Marina is a mermaid who watches over the bay," Whiskers explained. "She sends messages to children who need encouragement."

Lily's eyes widened. "Can I send a message back?"

Lily thought carefully, then wrote: *Dear Marina, thank you for remembering me. I promise to always be kind. —Lily*

Whiskers tucked the message into his capsule. "The best spies carry friendship, not secrets," he said with a wink.
