The Cat Who Befriended a Zombie
Luna was a fluffy black cat with bright green eyes and the softest fur in the village. She loved exploring, especially near the old mill pond where the water sparkled like diamonds in the sunlight.
One day, Luna heard sniffles coming from behind the willow tree. She peeked around and saw something strange—a small zombie boy sitting on a rock, crying. He had patchy green skin, messy tufts of orange hair sticking out everywhere, and the saddest eyes Luna had ever seen.
"Why are you crying?" Luna asked, surprising herself. Animals couldn't usually talk, but this was a magical pond.
The zombie jumped. "A talking cat!" He wiped his nose. "I'm Zeb. Everyone runs away from me because I'm a zombie. But I'm not scary. I'm just lonely. And look at my hair—it's always a mess!"
Luna hopped onto the rock beside him. "Your hair looks like autumn leaves. It's beautiful."
Zeb's eyes widened. "Really?"
"Really," Luna purred. "What do you like to do?"
"I love swimming," Zeb admitted shyly. "But the other kids won't let me in their pond. They say zombies are gross."
Luna's tail twitched with excitement. "This pond is magical! It's for everyone who's kind. Watch this!" She jumped into the water and began swimming gracefully, creating ripples of rainbow colors.
Zeb gasped. "That's amazing!"
"Come in!" Luna called. "The water won't judge you."
Zeb dipped one toe, then another. Soon he was splashing and laughing, his orange hair floating around him like seaweed. For the first time, he felt happy and free.
From that day on, Luna and Zeb were best friends. They swam together every afternoon, and soon the other children saw how kind and funny Zeb was. They realized that being different didn't mean being scary.
Sometimes the best friends come in the most unexpected packages—and sometimes, all someone needs is one friend to see who they really are.
