The Cat Who Befriended a Storm
Luna was a small black cat with white paws that looked like tiny marshmallows. Every night, she climbed the tallest palm tree in her garden and watched the stars twinkle. The palm leaves swished gently in the breeze, singing her to sleep.
One stormy evening, Luna noticed something peculiar. With each flash of lightning, a stone sphinx statue on the nearby hill seemed to glow golden. The sphinx had been there for centuries, silent and still. But tonight, something felt different.
Curious, Luna climbed down from her palm tree and crept through the wet grass toward the hill. Thunder rumbled softly, like a giant purring cat. When lightning struck again, the sphinx opened her eyes!
"Hello, little one," the sphinx spoke, her voice like ancient honey. "I've waited three hundred years for someone brave enough to visit during a storm."
Luna's tail twitched with excitement. "Why during storms?"
"Because that's when magic flows strongest," the sphinx explained. "I guard something very special—a jar of wonder dust that makes children's dreams come true. But I dropped it, and now it's scattered all over this hill. I cannot move to fetch it."
Luna understood immediately. The sphinx needed help! With lightning illuminating her path, the brave cat scurried across the hill, collecting glowing specks of wonder dust with her soft paws. She placed each speck carefully into the sphinx's open palm.
When the last speck was collected, the sphinx smiled. "You have proven yourself kind and brave. For your help, I grant you one gift."
Luna didn't need to think. "Make it so all the lonely cats in the world find loving homes."
The sphinx's eyes shone bright as lightning. "It is done. And you, little Luna—you shall never be alone either."
From that night on, Luna climbed her palm tree knowing she had made magic happen. And somewhere, on a lonely hill, a sphinx watched over her with grateful eyes.
