The Cat's Midnight Baseball

Leo sat alone on his porch, swinging his legs and watching the stars twinkle above. The other kids in the neighborhood had gone home hours ago, and Leo's baseball glove lay beside him, lonely and unused. He wished he had a friend to play catch with, someone who wouldn't laugh at his clumsy throws.

A soft meow made him jump. A fluffy orange cat with bright green eyes appeared from behind the bushes, carrying something shiny in its mouth. The cat dropped the object at Leo's feet—it was his missing baseball, glowing with a strange golden light!

"You found it!" Leo exclaimed, reaching for the ball. But as his fingers touched it, the baseball began to float upward. The cat purred and batted at it playfully, and suddenly Leo understood. This wasn't just any baseball game.

"Do you want to play?" Leo asked, holding up his glove. The cat meowed enthusiastically and somehow, magically, tossed the glowing baseball toward Leo. It sailed through the air like a shooting star, and Leo caught it perfectly. His heart raced with excitement.

They played until the moon climbed high in the sky. With each throw, Leo became more confident. The cat was the best friend he'd ever had—patient, fun, and full of surprises. Leo didn't feel lonely anymore.

"You're the best baseball player I've ever met," Leo told the cat, scratching behind its ears. The cat purred so loudly that it sounded like a tiny motor.

As dawn approached, the cat nudged Leo's hand and then bounded away into the morning mist. But in Leo's glove lay the golden baseball, still glowing faintly. The next day at the park, when other kids asked him to play, Leo wasn't afraid. He remembered his magical friend and the secret they shared: believing in yourself makes you unstoppable.

And sometimes, late at night, Leo still sees a pair of green eyes watching from the bushes, waiting for the next game of midnight baseball.
