The Cat in Luna's Palm

Luna was never supposed to be out past bedtime, but tonight the stars were calling her name. She slipped through the back door in her bare feet, the grass cool beneath her toes. Something shimmered at the edge of the garden—something that looked like stardust fallen to earth.

As Luna crept closer, a tiny shape appeared. It was no larger than her thumb, with fur that glowed like moonlight and eyes that held entire galaxies. A miniature cat, sitting on a fallen leaf, watching her with ancient wisdom.

"You're small," Luna whispered, crouching down.

"And you're curious," the cat replied in a voice like wind chimes. "That's how magic finds us."

Luna held out her hand, and to her wonder, the cat stepped onto her **palm**. It felt warm, like holding a piece of the sun. "What's your name?"

"I am many names to many friends. But tonight, you may call me Starlight. And I have been waiting for someone like you, Luna."

"For me? Why?"

Starlight's tail curled around Luna's thumb. "Because the梦境树 needs a guardian. Will you come with me?"

Before Luna could answer, Starlight leaped from her hand—and suddenly grew larger, becoming the size of a regular cat, then bigger, until Luna could climb onto its back.

"Hold on!" Starlight cried, and they were **running**—not across the grass, but through the air, leaving trails of sparkles like a comet's tail.

They soared through clouds that tasted like cotton candy, past constellations that waved hello, and into a secret garden Luna had never seen before. In its center stood an enormous tree with leaves of crystal, glowing softly. But some branches were wilting, their light fading.

"The Dream-Tree is forgetting," Starlight said sadly. "Children stopped believing in magic, and now it grows weak. But you believed in me the moment you saw me."

Luna reached out and touched a drooping leaf. Instantly, it sparkled brighter. "What do I do?"

"Believe. Imagine. Share the wonder with others. Will you be my **friend** and guardian of dreams?"

Luna wrapped her arms around Starlight's glowing neck. "Yes. Forever."

The tree erupted in light, sending dreams streaming toward every child's window in the world. Luna and Starlight spent the night racing among the stars, delivering courage to scared children and adventure to bored ones.

When dawn approached, Starlight carried Luna back to her garden, now tiny again.

"Will I see you again?" Luna asked, cradling the **cat** in her hands.

"Every night you look at the stars and believe," Starlight purred, fading into sparkles. "We are never truly apart, you and I. Magic lives in every heart that still dares to wonder."

Luna climbed back into bed, her palm still warm where Starlight had been. Outside her window, a star winked, and Luna knew her greatest adventure was just beginning.
