The Cat and the Star Pool
Emma's orange tabby cat, Pumpkin, had been acting strangely all morning. He kept darting to the backyard and meowing loudly, as if trying to tell her something important.
"What is it, Pumpkin?" Emma followed him to the old swimming pool behind their house. But this wasn't just any pool — the water shimmered with colors that didn't exist in nature, swirling like a galaxy captured in water.
Paw steps echoed from the other side of the pool. A miniature bull, no bigger than a stuffed animal, trotted forward. His fur was midnight blue with silver crescents on his horns.
"I've been waiting for you," the bull said in a voice like wind chimes. "I'm Orion, keeper of the Star Pool. This gateway between worlds is fading, and I need your help."
Emma's iPhone buzzed in her pocket, and when she pulled it out, the screen showed not her usual apps, but a glowing message: THE STAR VITAMIN.
"The Star Vitamin," Orion explained, "is what keeps the pool magical. It's hidden in the human world, and only someone with a pure heart can find it. The pool chose you because you believe in magic."
Emma knelt beside the pool. "But where do I look?"
Pumpkin rubbed against her leg, purring loudly. Emma looked at her cat, then at the phone's camera. When she aimed it at the pool, the screen revealed something amazing — tiny glowing particles floating above the water, visible only through the lens.
"The Star Vitamin is made of stardust that falls when children make wishes!" Emma realized. "And it collects where people believe in dreams."
With Orion's guidance, Emma used her phone to capture the stardust particles. Each one she collected made the pool shine brighter. Pumpkin purred louder, as if cheering her on.
When she'd gathered enough, Emma sprinkled the stardust into the water. The pool erupted in a fountain of rainbow light, and the gateway between worlds was restored.
"Thank you," Orion said, his silver horns glowing. "You'll always be able to visit us now. Just bring your cat and your believing heart."
That night, Emma fell asleep with Pumpkin curled beside her, dreaming of star pools and midnight-blue bulls. And sometimes, if she looked at her old photos just right, she could still see the magic shimmering in the background.
