The Cable to Wonder Pool
Leo loved baseball more than anything, but he was too shy to join the neighborhood games. Every afternoon, he'd sit by his window, watching kids play and wishing he had the courage to ask for a turn.
One Saturday, while wandering through the woods behind his house, Leo discovered something magical—a crystal-clear pool tucked between ancient oak trees. But what caught his eye was the thick brass cable stretching from a tree branch down into the shimmering water.
"Hello?" Leo called, and the cable began to glow.
Suddenly, a friendly voice echoed from the pool. "Pull the cable, Leo! It's your invitation!"
Heart pounding, Leo tugged the cable. The water swirled like a whirlpool, revealing a hidden staircase beneath the surface. Curiosity stronger than fear, Leo descended.
At the bottom, he gasped. An entire underwater baseball field shimmered with bioluminescent lights. Tiny glowing fish served as spectators, and the players were the most unlikely teammates—talking otters, cheerful beavers, and one wise old turtle.
"We need a fourth player for our championship game," said Barnaby the beaver, tossing Leo a glowing baseball. "Care to join?"
Leo's dream come true! He played the most magical game of his life. The otters were speedy base runners, the beaver hit powerful home runs, and Leo discovered he was an excellent pitcher. When he struck out the turtle (who winked and congratulated him), Leo felt braver than ever before.
"You've always been wonderful, Leo," the turtle said as Leo climbed back up the cable. "You just needed to believe in yourself."
Back in his yard, Leo marched straight to the neighborhood game. "Can I play next?" he asked, voice steady and strong.
The kids welcomed him with cheers. As Leo stepped up to bat, he touched his pocket—where a tiny glowing scale from Wonder Pool reminded him: courage was always inside him, waiting to be discovered.
