The Cable Pyramid Scheme

zombiecablepyramid

The monstrosity of tangled cables behind my TV looked like a technology graveyard. I'd been putting off dealing with it for weeks—honestly, probably since forever. But tonight was different. Tonight, Maya was coming over for our third unofficial date, and nothing kills the vibe faster than a mess of wires that makes you look like you sleep inside a Best Buy dumpster.

"You're not actually gonna fix that, are you?" my roommate Kai asked from the couch, where he'd been binge-watching something for six hours straight. He looked like a zombie from all that screen time—pale eyes, messy hair, the whole undead aesthetic.

"Watch and learn, my dude." I cracked my knuckles. "This is about more than cables. It's about order in a chaotic universe."

Three hours later, I'd created something beautiful. A literal pyramid of perfectly organized cables, each one labeled and zipped into submission. HDMI here. Power there. Ethernet in its own little velvet rope section. It was basically art.

But then Maya showed up, took one look at my masterpiece, and burst out laughing.

"Is that... is that a cable pyramid?" She wiped actual tears from her eyes. "Like, you built a pyramid out of your wires?"

"It's organizational excellence!" I defended, but I was already smiling. "What, you don't appreciate the aesthetic?"

"I appreciate that you're literally the weirdest person I've ever met," she said, dropping onto the couch beside me. "In a good way. Mostly."

Kai mumbled something from the corner, still in his zombie state. Something about how he wished he had my motivation to do literally anything productive.

"Whatever," I said, grabbing the remote. "The cable pyramid stays. It's a monument to my competence."

Maya leaned her head on my shoulder. "Sure, sure. Just don't expect me to help you rebuild it when it all falls apart in five minutes."

"Deal."

And yeah, the whole thing collapsed the next day when I tried to add one more cable. But that's fine. Some things aren't meant to last forever—like perfectly organized wires, or feeling like you have everything figured out, or the social pyramid that puts cool kids at the top and weirdos at the bottom. Sometimes you just gotta rebuild the pyramid however you want it, even if it's just a pile of cables and the person who laughs at your weirdness but shows up anyway.
