The Cable Car Spy and the Lonely Zombie
Maya loved riding the cable car that zinged over her city like a shiny metal snake. Every day after school, she'd press her face against the glass and wave at the tiny people below.
One Tuesday, something peculiar happened. The cable car stopped mid-air, swaying gently like a sleepy cradle. Through the window, Maya spotted a small, gray figure sitting on a nearby rooftop.
"I'm a spy!" Maya whispered to herself, grabbing her binoculars from her backpack. The figure wasn't moving. It looked stiff as a statue, with pale skin and tattered clothes. A zombie!
But this zombie wasn't scary like in movies. He looked... lonely. Maya decided to investigate.
She climbed out the emergency hatch and crept across the cable (she knew it would hold her because she'd seen the repairman do it). The zombie didn't attack. He just sat there, staring at the sunset with sad, misty eyes.
"Are you okay?" Maya asked.
The zombie's mouth opened, but no words came out—just a soft groan. He held up a sign on which he'd written: HUNGRY.
Maya gasped. "You need food!"
She reached into her pocket and pulled out a colorful gummy shaped like a bear. "It's a special vitamin bear! My mom says they make you strong and happy."
The zombie's pale fingers trembled as he took it. The moment he swallowed, color rushed to his cheeks like paint on a canvas. His eyes brightened. He spoke!
"Thank you, friend. I've been a zombie for a hundred years because I never ate anything good. Just old pizza and grumpy thoughts."
Maya's eyes widened. "You need vitamins! And friends!"
Every day after school, Maya would spy from the cable car until she saw him. She'd bring carrots, oranges, and sometimes her grandma's homemade soup. Slowly, the zombie transformed. His skin became warm and rosy. His smile could light up the whole city.
He was never a zombie again. He was just Charlie, the nicest friend Maya ever made.
Maya learned that sometimes, the scariest things just need a little kindness and the right vitamins to become wonderful.
