The Cable Car's Secret
Lily loved the old orange cable car that nobody used anymore. It sat at the top of the hill, rusted and forgotten, but Lily believed it had magic in its wheels. Every afternoon after school, she'd visit it, pressing her cheek against the warm metal, whispering her secrets.
One Tuesday, something wonderful happened. As Lily stepped inside, the cable car suddenly lurched! With a creak and a groan, it began moving down the mountain, running faster and faster through the trees. Lily squealed with delight as wind rushed through her hair.
The cable car stopped at a hidden place Lily had never seen before—a shimmering pool surrounded by flowers that glowed like tiny stars. The water was the most beautiful orange color, like sunset trapped in liquid form.
"Hello, little friend," said a voice. Lily turned to see an old woman with kind eyes and silver hair. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to ride this cable car."
"Who are you?" Lily asked.
"I'm the keeper of the Courage Pool," the woman explained. "This water gives children the strength to face their fears. But only those who dare to take the journey can find it."
Lily's eyes widened. She thought about her fear of speaking in class, her worry about the big test tomorrow.
"May I... may I try some?"
The woman smiled and cupped her hands, offering Lily a drink. As the orange water touched her lips, Lily felt warmth spread through her chest. She imagined herself standing tall in class, her voice clear and strong.
"Thank you!" Lily hugged the woman. "But what about other children? They need courage too!"
"Ah," the woman's eyes twinkled. "That's why you must tell them. Real courage isn't just magic—it's sharing what you've learned with others."
Lily nodded solemnly. She promised to return every week, and to bring any friend who needed courage. As the cable car carried her home, running along the cable through the twilight sky, Lily knew her life had changed forever.
She couldn't wait to help others find their own courage, one orange sip at a time.
