The Bull with the Golden Heart
Lily loved helping her grandmother on their small farm, but she was afraid of one thing: Barnaby, the giant bull who grazed in the meadow. His horns looked sharp, and his hooves were enormous.
One afternoon, while picking wildflowers near the fence, Lily spotted something strange. Barnaby was lying by the old orange tree that grew at the edge of the pasture. His shaggy brown hair caught the sunlight, making him look almost gentle. But it was what he was doing that surprised her.
The bull was carefully nudging fallen oranges toward a tiny, scared hedgehog trapped beneath some branches. When Barnaby saw Lily watching, he didn't charge or snort. Instead, he gave a soft moo and used his nose to push an orange toward the hedgehog, as if offering it a treat.
Lily's fear melted away. She climbed through the fence and sat beside the massive creature. Barnaby's large brown eyes were kind, and his rough hair felt surprisingly soft when she dared to pat his head. The hedgehog munched happily on the orange Barnaby had shared.
'You're not scary at all,' Lily whispered, handing Barnaby a sweet orange from her basket. 'You're a guardian.'
From that day on, Lily brought Barnaby oranges every visit. They became best friends, teaching the whole village that sometimes the biggest creatures have the gentlest hearts, and true friends come in all shapes and sizes.
