The Bull Who Wished Upon Stars

Barnaby was not like other bulls. While the others in the pasture spent their days chewing grass and swatting flies, Barnaby spent his nights gazing at the stars. His friend, a scruffy orange cat named Pumpkin, would curl up beside him on the old wooden fence.

"You're too big to be a dreamer," the other cows would say, but Barnaby didn't listen.

One evening, something tumbled from the sky and landed right in Barnaby's favorite patch of clover. It wasn't a star. It was a hat—a magnificent purple hat with silver moons stitched along the brim.

"Try it on!" Pumpkin meowed, her green eyes wide with wonder.

Barnaby lowered his massive head. The hat slipped perfectly over his horns. Suddenly, the ground beneath his hooves felt lighter. The fence grew smaller. The stars grew brighter. And then, impossible as it seemed, Barnaby's hooves left the ground.

"You're floating!" cried Pumpkin, chasing after him as Barnaby drifted upward like a giant, spotted balloon.

The bull and his cat friend soared past the moon, danced with comets, and raced through clouds that tasted like cotton candy. Barnaby had never felt so free. When he finally landed back in the pasture as dawn painted the sky pink, he knew something had changed.

The next day, when the other cows made fun of his purple hat, Barnaby didn't feel sad. He just smiled and shared his story with anyone who would listen. Some laughed, but others—especially the littlest calves—gathered round with wide eyes.

"Could we see the stars too?" a tiny calf asked.

Barnaby thought for a moment. The hat was magic, but perhaps real magic wasn't in the hat at all. Maybe it was in believing that even a bull who chewed cud all day could touch the stars.

"The stars are always there," Barnaby told them. "You just have to look up."

That night, half the pasture was full of stargazing cows. And Barnaby, with his purple hat and his best friend Pumpkin by his side, knew he had found something better than flying—he had helped others dream too.
