The Bull Who Wished for a Friend
Barnaby was the grumpiest bull in all of Green Valley Meadow. With his massive horns and thundering hooves, he frightened all the other farm animals away. But deep inside, Barnaby was lonely. He had no friend to share his clover patches with, no one to nudge horns with at sunset.
One rainy afternoon, as Barnaby huddled under an old oak tree, something magical happened. A bolt of lightning crackled across the purple sky and struck the small pond nearby. When Barnaby peeked over the edge, he saw something glowing beneath the ripples.
It was a tiny goldfish with scales that sparkled like tiny stars. But this wasn't any ordinary fish—thanks to the lightning's magic, the goldfish could speak!
"Hello there, big fellow," said the goldfish with a voice like tinkling bells. "I'm Finnegan. I grant one wish to whoever finds me during a storm. What would your heart desire?"
Barnaby's eyes widened. He could wish for endless clover! For the biggest water trough in the valley! For all the other animals to tremble when he approached!
But as Barnaby looked at Finnegan, swimming so gracefully despite being small in such a big pond, he felt something strange in his chest. A warmth he'd never felt before.
"I... I wish..." Barnaby's voice trembled. "I wish for a friend. Just one real friend."
Finnegan's scales shone even brighter. "That," said the goldfish, "is the wisest wish a bull has ever made. And sometimes, the best friends are the ones we least expect."
The storm passed, and a rainbow arched across the sky. Barnaby returned to the pond every day, and he and Finnegan became the most unlikely friends in Green Valley. And you know what? The other animals noticed how gentle Barnaby had become. Soon enough, the sheep stopped running away. The cows said hello. Even the barn cat came to visit.
Barnaby learned that having a friend makes even the grumpiest heart glow brighter than lightning—something no amount of clover or power could ever do.
