The Bull Who Wanted to Fly

Lily loved spending summer days at Old Miller's Pond, where the water sparkled like diamonds under the sun. She was swimming near the lily pads when she heard a deep, sad mooing sound.

Curious, Lily followed the sound through the tall grass. There, behind the willow tree, sat the biggest bull she'd ever seen. His name was Barnaby, and all the children in town were afraid of him. They said he was grumpy and dangerous.

But Barnaby wasn't grumpy today. He was crying big, wet bull tears into the grass.

"What's wrong?" Lily asked, forgetting to be scared.

Barnaby looked up with surprised brown eyes. "Oh, hello, little one. I'm just sad because everyone runs away from me. I've never had a friend before."

Lily's heart went out to him. "I'll be your friend!" she said. "But why do you look so lonely out here?"

Barnaby sighed. "I have a secret. I don't want to be a bull. I want to fly like the butterflies. But bulls are too heavy for flying."

Lily thought for a moment. "You can't fly, but maybe you can swim! I bet bulls are excellent swimmers. It's like flying, but in water!"

Barnaby's eyes widened. "I've never tried swimming before. Do you think I could?"

"Only one way to find out!" Lily grabbed his giant hoof and led him to the pond.

At first, Barnaby was scared. But when he stepped into the cool water, something magical happened. He floated! His heavy body became light as a feather. He kicked his powerful legs and—zoom!—Barnaby was swimming faster than any fish.

"I'm doing it!" Barnaby cheered, splashing water everywhere. "I'm flying underwater!"

From that day on, Lily and Barnaby were best friends. Every afternoon, they'd go swimming together. And when the other children saw how gentle and fun Barnaby really was, they stopped being afraid.

Sometimes the best adventures come from the most unexpected friendships. And Barnaby learned that even if you can't fly, you can still soar—in your own special way.
