The Bull Who Swam the Stars
Lily lived in a house where the TV cable never worked, which was fine by her because she preferred watching the real sky through her telescope. Every night, she'd press her face against the cold glass and search for her favorite constellation—Taurus, the bull.
One night, something strange happened. A bright spark broke loose from the bull constellation and tumbled toward Earth like a fallen star. Lily rushed outside in her pajamas and found a tiny bull made entirely of shimmering starlight, his eyes like twin comets.
"I slipped!" cried the bull, whose name was Barnaby. "I was swimming through the Milky Way, playing tag with the shooting stars, and I lost my grip!"
Lily had never heard of a star-bull who could go swimming in the sky, but she nodded bravely. "We'll get you home."
In the garage, she found her grandpa's old copper cable. It was thick and strong, perfect for a celestial rescue mission. Together, they climbed to the roof. Lily tied one end of the cable around Barnaby's middle and the other around the chimney.
"Hold tight!" Lily called, but she hadn't planned on what came next.
Barnaby began to glow brighter and brighter, his hooves lifting from the roof. The cable pulled tight, humming with cosmic energy. Suddenly, Lily grabbed on too—and they both lifted into the air!
Up they soared, past the clouds, past the moon, leaving the cable dangling behind them like an invisible lifeline. The night air rushed past Lily's ears as Barnaby, stronger now in his true element, swam through the star-strewn darkness as gracefully as a fish in water.
"This is where I belong!" Barnaby cheered, doing a joyous flip through a cluster of stars.
At last, they reached the bull constellation. The other stars twinkled with welcome, making room for their friend. Barnaby nudged Lily gently. "Thank you for believing in magic," he whispered.
As Lily drifted back to Earth on the moonlight, she understood something wonderful: some bulls don't belong in fields, and some friends aren't meant to stay forever—but they can still fill your life with stardust.
That night, Lily fell asleep dreaming of swimming through constellations, and the TV cable stayed disconnected forever. Some connections are better made with the stars.
