The Bull Who Swallowed Sunshine
Emma loved summer mornings, especially when she could sneak through the fence behind Old Mr. Miller's farm. That's where she met Barney, the most enormous brown bull she'd ever seen. But Barney wasn't scary – he was magical.
Every Saturday, Emma brought her baseball glove. Barney would stomp his hooves and snort with joy when she pitched the ball. His massive head would swing, and CRACK! The ball would soar over the treetops.
"You're the best baseball player ever!" Emma cheered, chasing the ball through tall grass.
But one hot July morning, Barney didn't come to the fence. Emma found him lying sadly in his favorite shady spot. His brown fur looked dull, and his eyes were sleepy.
"What's wrong, Barney?" Emma whispered, patting his warm nose.
The bull sighed. A tiny orange glow slipped from his mouth. Emma gasped – it was a little ball of sunshine!
"Oh!" she said. "You swallowed the sunrise!"
Barney nodded slowly. For weeks, he'd been eating the morning light because it made his coat shimmer like polished copper. But now, eating sunshine wasn't enough. He needed something else – something special.
Emma thought hard. Then she remembered what her grandma said.
"Carrots have vitamins!" Emma exclaimed. "And so do oranges and green leafy things! They give you energy and make you strong!"
She rushed home and returned with her grandma's basket full of colorful vegetables. Crunchy orange carrots, bright red apples, green spinach leaves – all bursting with the special magic called vitamins.
Barney ate them all, his eyes growing wider with every bite. Suddenly, his brown fur began to sparkle like tiny stars. His muscles rippled with new strength.
"Now you're ready for the big game!" Emma cheered.
That afternoon, they played the most wonderful baseball game ever. Barney hit the ball so high it touched a cloud. Emma caught it, laughing as they tumbled together in the soft grass.
Emma learned something important that day. Even magical bulls need real food to stay strong. And sometimes, the best adventures happen when you help a friend – even if that friend is a bull who loves baseball and used to eat sunshine for breakfast.
