The Bull Who Spied on Moonlight Zombies

Lily discovered the tiny crystal bull under her grandmother's attic staircase. It shimmered like captured starlight, and when she held it, the bull winked!

"I'm Barnaby," the bull squeaked in a voice like jingle bells. "And I need you to be my spy!"

Lily gasped. A spy? Like in her favorite adventure books? She grabbed her old iPhone from her backpack — the one Grandma had given her for playing games.

"What are we spying on?" she whispered, her heart fluttering like butterfly wings.

Barnaby jumped onto her shoulder. "The moonlight zombies! They only come out when the moon is full, and they're having a party tonight!"

Lily had never heard of moonlight zombies. Were they scary? But Barnaby seemed excited, not afraid. Together, they tiptoed into the garden.

The bull told her to hold up the iPhone. "Tap the camera! Quick!"

Through the screen, Lily saw them — not scary monsters at all! They were glowing, transparent figures dancing among the flowers. Some looked like rabbits, others like foxes or deer. They moved slowly, dreamily, leaving trails of silver light wherever they stepped.

"They're not zombies," Lily breathed. "They're beautiful!"

"They ARE beautiful," Barnaby said proudly. "They're the spirits of animals who lived happy lives. Tonight they dance to celebrate joy. Most people never see them because they don't believe in magic."

The moonlight zombies gathered around Lily and Barnaby. One rabbit-spirit nudged Lily's hand with a nose that felt like cool mist. She wasn't afraid at all. She felt... special.

"You're the first human spy to find us," whispered the rabbit-ghost. "Would you like to dance?"

Lily handed her iPhone to Barnaby, who took photos with his tiny crystal hooves. Then she joined the moonlight zombies, spinning and swaying under the silver moon until fireflies joined the dance, their tiny lights twinkling in harmony.

When morning came, the spirits faded. But Lily knew they would return. She kept the crystal bull on her nightstand, and sometimes, through her iPhone camera, she could still see the moonlight zombies dancing in her dreams — teaching her that magic exists for those who believe, and that the most wonderful discoveries come from keeping your heart and eyes wide open.
