The Bull Who Played Baseball
Leo had the curliest, wildest **hair** in his whole class. It bounced like springs when he ran and puffed up like a cloud whenever it rained. Most days, Leo loved his hair. But not on **swimming** days.
Every Friday, Leo's class went to the pool. While other kids splashed and raced, Leo sat on the bench, towel wrapped tight around himself. He was afraid the water would make his hair go crazy—and everyone would laugh.
One afternoon, Leo wandered to the old pond behind his house. Something shiny caught his eye. He reached into the water and pulled out a smooth, round stone—no, not a stone. It was a **baseball**!
"Looking for this?" a deep voice rumbled.
Leo jumped and turned around. Standing there was a enormous **bull**, but not a scary one. This bull had kind brown eyes and wore a red polka-dotted bandana around his neck.
"I'm Barnaby," the bull said gently. "That's my lucky baseball. Would you like to play catch?"
Leo's eyes widened. "You play baseball?"
"Underwater baseball!" Barnaby winked. "It's the best kind. The water makes everything float beautifully. Come see!"
The bull waded into the pond and disappeared beneath the surface. Curious, Leo followed. To his amazement, he could breathe underwater! And there, at the bottom of the pond, was a whole baseball field made of colorful coral.
"Your hair!" Barnaby cheered. "Look how it flows like beautiful seaweed. It makes you swim faster than anyone!"
Leo looked down. His curly hair was floating around him like a golden halo. He felt... magnificent.
For hours, Leo and Barnaby played underwater baseball with fish as umpires and frogs as cheerleaders. Leo scored three home runs!
"You're a wonderful **friend**, Barnaby," Leo said as they rested on the grassy bank.
"And you're brave, Leo," the bull replied. "Sometimes the things that make us different are actually our superpowers."
The next Friday, Leo jumped into the pool first. His hair puffed up everywhere, and he didn't care. He splashed and raced and laughed.
"Your hair is so cool!" a classmate said. "It looks like a sea creature's!"
Leo smiled, thinking of Barnaby. "It is," he said. "And it helps me swim like a superhero."
That night, Leo visited Barnaby again. They played baseball until the stars came out, two friends who knew that being yourself was the best way to be brave.
