The Bull Who Played Ball
Timmy loved his backyard pool, but tonight it shimmered with strange golden light. At the stroke of midnight, the water rippled like liquid stars.
He peeked over the edge and gasped. A magnificent bull with a coat like midnight velvet stood at the bottom, somehow breathing underwater. The bull tossed a baseball from hoof to hoof, then caught it in his massive horns and tossed it upward.
A goldfish with scales like tiny suns swam up, her tail leaving trails of sparkles. "You've discovered our secret world," she sang, her voice like bubbles chiming. "I'm Princess Glinda, and this is Barnaby, the Guardian of Games."
Barnaby bowed, his golden horns gleaming. "We play baseball here every midnight. Would you like to join?"
Timmy's heart raced with excitement! "Yes! But my dad works too much. He's always on his iPhone, even during my games."
Princess Glinda swam closer. "I can grant one wish, Timmy. But it must be true. What does your heart truly desire?"
Tears filled Timmy's eyes. "I want my dad to put down his phone and play baseball with me. Just once."
The pool water swirled with magic. Glinda's scales flashed brighter than ever. "Done. But remember, Timmy – magic works best when paired with courage."
The next morning, Timmy found his dad sitting at the kitchen table, iPhone in hand. But then something amazing happened. His father's phone chimed with a text message he couldn't ignore: **"URGENT: ALL SYSTEMS DOWN. ENJOY YOUR DAY OFF!"
Dad stared at his phone, then at Timmy's baseball glove on the counter. Then he smiled – a real smile. "You know what, buddy? Let's play catch."
In the backyard, as they played, Timmy noticed something wonderful. His dad wasn't checking his phone once. He was really there, laughing and running and playing.
That night, Timmy peeked into the magical pool. Barnaby raised his baseball in salute, and Princess Glinda blew him a kiss of golden bubbles.
Some magic, Timmy realized, comes in unexpected packages – even mysterious text messages sent by friendly goldfish.
From then on, every Saturday became baseball day. And sometimes, if Timmy looked closely at his pool, he could see a flicker of golden light, reminding him that friendship and family time were the most magical wishes of all.
