The Bull Who Padel-ed at Midnight
Lily had always been curious about the old tennis court behind her house. It was overgrown with vines, its net sagging like a tired smile. But on summer nights, she heard strange sounds—thwack, thwack, squeak, thwack.
One full-moon night, Lily tiptoed outside with her flashlight. What she saw made her gasp.
A magnificent bull stood at the baseline. His golden-brown fur gleamed in the moonlight, and his curved horns sparkled with tiny stars. In his hoof, he held a padel racquet. With a graceful swing, he hit the magical ball against the wall—thwack!
The bull noticed Lily. His big brown eyes twinkled. "I'm Ferdinand," he mooed softly. "Want to play padel?"
Lily's mouth opened wide. "But you're... you're a bull!"
"And you're a girl who sneaks out at night," Ferdinand laughed. "We're both full of surprises."
They played until the stars began to fade. Lily had never had so much fun. Ferdinand wasn't just big and strong—he was gentle, patient, and kind.
"Come with me," Ferdinand said. "I want to show you something."
He led her through a hidden path in the forest to a secret pool. But this wasn't just any pool. The water shimmered like liquid diamonds, and when Lily looked in, she saw her reflection surrounded by dancing fireflies.
"The Magic Pool shows you your true self," Ferdinand explained. "What do you see?"
Lily saw a brave, kind girl who made friends with everyone—even magical bulls. She saw someone full of wonder and ready for adventure.
"I see someone who's never going to stop exploring," she said.
Ferdinand smiled. "Then our friendship has just begun."
Every night that summer, Lily met Ferdinand at the old court for padel, then they'd visit the Magic Pool to discover new dreams together. And sometimes, if you listen closely on full-moon nights, you can still hear them—thwack, thwack, squeak, thwack—playing the most magical game you'll ever know.
