The Bull Who Loved to Swim
Lily lived on Sunflower Farm with her best friend, Barnaby the bull. Barnaby wasn't like other bulls. While they slept in the shade, Barnaby dreamed of water.
One afternoon, Lily found Barnaby standing at the edge of Bluebell Pond. His massive hooves dipped into the cool water, and his brown eyes sparkled with longing.
"Bulls don't swim," the other farm animals said. But Lily knew better.
The next morning, Lily discovered something magical. Behind the old red barn grew patches of emerald-green spinach, glowing with an unusual light. Her grandmother's voice echoed in her memory: "Spinach grown in moonlight gives special gifts to those who are brave enough to try."
Lily gathered the glowing leaves and brought them to Barnaby. The bull sniffed the strange vegetable, then took a big bite. His eyes widened with surprise—it tasted like sweet honey!
Something wonderful happened. Barnaby's heavy body began to feel lighter, almost weightless. He stepped into the pond and didn't sink. Instead, he floated! With each paddle of his strong legs, he glided through the water like a swan.
From that day on, every morning became a swimming lesson. Lily sat on the grassy bank, cheering as her bull friend did backstrokes and belly floats. The pond animals gathered to watch—a turtle clapped, dragonflies danced, and even the grumpy old heron smiled.
But the best surprise came when other bulls gathered at the fence. Nosey Neville, the biggest bull, laughed and pointed. "Bulls belong on land!" he called.
Barnaby swam to the edge and nudged a pile of regular spinach toward Neville. "Try it," Lily called. "Then try something new."
Neville took a tentative bite, then another. Slowly, one by one, the farm bulls discovered the joy of swimming. And Lily learned that true friends help each other try impossible things.
Now Bluebell Pond is the happiest place on Sunflower Farm, where cows do cannonballs and bulls race water turtles. All because one girl believed in her friend, and one bull was brave enough to try something new.
